Editor's note

This development signals a shift toward safer, rail-based chemical logistics in Asia. Buyers sourcing from India should note the potential for improved supply chain reliability and reduced transit risks. The venture's first customer and revenue projections underscore strong demand, while the focus on global safety standards addresses key regulatory and compliance concerns for hazardous materials.

AVG Logistics Limited has launched a new rail-based liquid logistics vertical in India, designed to transport bulk liquid chemicals safely and efficiently using high-grade ISO tank containers. The venture, which already has Chemplast Sanmar Limited as its first customer, aims to offer a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable alternative to road transport for chemical supply chains.

New vertical details

Each train is configured to carry 96 ISO tank containers with a total capacity of approximately 3,100 tons per trip. AVG Logistics expects this service to generate annual revenue of around Rs. 22-24 crore, reflecting strong demand for reliable liquid chemical logistics in India's industrial corridors.

Integrated logistics ecosystem

The rail service complements AVG's recently imported ISO tanker fleet, enabling seamless first-mile, long-haul rail movement, and last-mile delivery. The company has also secured a long-term lease with the Central Warehousing Corporation for flatbed trains to support this integrated model.

Safety and compliance focus

The liquid cargo vertical is designed to adhere strictly to global safety and quality standards. Rail transport reduces transit time, enhances cargo integrity, and minimizes handling risks compared to conventional road-based liquid transport, which is critical for chemical and hazardous materials.

Sustainability and efficiency gains

Rail-led liquid transportation offers lower carbon emissions per ton-kilometer, reduced road congestion, and optimized fuel consumption. By combining rail with its ISO tank container fleet, AVG Logistics is building a scalable, environmentally responsible logistics model for bulk liquid movement.

What buyers should watch

Chemical importers, distributors, and manufacturers sourcing or moving bulk liquids in India should monitor AVG Logistics' expansion plans. The company intends to scale its liquid logistics train operations based on customer demand and corridor viability, potentially offering more reliable and cost-competitive transport options for chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and industrial liquids.

China sourcing context

While this development is specific to India, it signals a broader trend in Asia toward rail-based chemical logistics as a safer, greener alternative to road transport. Overseas buyers sourcing chemicals from India may benefit from improved supply chain reliability and reduced transit risks as multimodal logistics providers invest in specialized assets and compliance frameworks.
