Editor's note

This integrated chemical recycling chain signals a major shift for overseas buyers seeking compliant circular feedstocks. The partnership addresses tightening global recycling mandates by converting low-value waste into high-quality PPO and circular naphtha, reducing supply-chain risks for petrochemical and fuel applications.

At IFAT Munich 2026, Vary Tech, Evonik, and SupeZET jointly launched a complete industrial chain process for chemically recycling plastic waste into high-quality pyrolysis oil (PPO) and circular naphtha, addressing tightening global recycling mandates and offering overseas buyers a scalable, compliant feedstock solution.

Strategic partnership and Singapore hub

To accelerate commercialization, Vary Tech and SupeZET signed a strategic agreement at the fair to establish CARBON LOOP SYSTEMS PTE. LTD. in Singapore, focusing on chemical plastic recycling and biomass-to-SAF. The joint venture, along with Evonik and Singapore-based JE Synergy, also signed an MOU to build Asia's first closed-loop chemical recycling demonstration project for post-consumer plastics from low-value municipal waste, supporting Singapore's 'zero waste' master plan.

Regulatory drivers and market gap

Facing tightening global recycling mandates—including the EU PPWR, new End-of-Life Vehicle Regulation, France's AGEC law, India's Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules 2026, and the Plastics Pact—the industry must shift from basic pyrolysis to stable production of compliant chemical feedstocks. This project fills the circular naphtha gap by converting low-value, mixed, mechanically non-recyclable polyolefin waste (PP/PE) into premium petrochemical feedstock.

Core technology and process chain

Vary Tech's core technology is oxygen-free pyrolysis, developed over 20 years and six iterations. With a capacity of 150 tonnes per day and over 8,000 operating hours per year, it ensures high front-end stability. The PPO then enters Evonik's proprietary Rocket module for upgrading and impurity removal, followed by SupeZET's advanced hydrogenation and fractionation module for deep refining. The full chain—feedstock pretreatment, continuous pyrolysis, deep purification, and product recovery—directly produces circular naphtha and high-quality PPO meeting international petrochemical standards.

What buyers should watch

Overseas buyers seeking compliant circular feedstocks for polymers, coatings, or fuels should note that this integrated process guarantees seamless entry into global petrochemical and low-carbon fuel supply chains, removing technical barriers to high-end circular economy applications. Vary Tech's oxygen-free pyrolysis technology also offers broad feedstock compatibility, having been applied to waste tires, hydrocarbon sludge, hazardous industrial waste, medical waste, and new-energy solid waste, with over 100 commercial pyrolysis lines delivered worldwide.

China sourcing context

While the project is based in Singapore, Vary Tech brings 16 years of autonomous plant experience and a dual-drive model of 'high-end equipment manufacturing + industrial operation.' The company has enabled Haier, TCL, and Midea to provide eco-recycling services for over 130 million obsolete appliances globally. At IFAT, Vary Tech also showcased an AI-powered intelligent appliance dismantling system with a capacity of 200 units per hour—a global efficiency record—ensuring high-purity separation of all e-waste categories.
