Editor's note

This expansion signals a strategic shift in the global 2,4-D supply chain, with India emerging as a key sourcing hub. Buyers should monitor the commissioning timeline from early FY 2026–27 for potential pricing and supply stability benefits. The investment raises questions about regulatory compliance and operational efficiency, which could mitigate supply-chain risks.

Indian agrochemical manufacturer Flourish Paper & Chemicals Ltd. has announced a Rs. 50 crore (approx. USD 6 million) investment to expand its 2,4-D production capacity to 10,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) starting from the next fiscal year. The move strengthens backward integration and operational efficiency, positioning the company to better serve global demand for phenoxy herbicides.

Capacity expansion details

The company will commission the expanded 2,4-D capacity of 10,000 MTPA from the beginning of FY 2026–27, with full-scale commercial production scheduled immediately thereafter. The investment of Rs. 50 crore is directed at modernizing core process infrastructure, including new high-efficiency reaction systems and improved chlorination and hydrolysis units.

Product portfolio and flexibility

The upgraded facility will produce a full spectrum of 2,4-D technical and bulk products—specifically sodium salt, acid, amine, and ethyl ester. This increased manufacturing flexibility allows the company to cater to region-specific formulation requirements and varying regulatory standards across global markets.

Technology and efficiency upgrades

The plant modernization integrates Advanced Process Control (APC) systems to boost reaction yield, ensure batch consistency, and enhance safety. These upgrades also optimize raw material usage, cut process losses, and improve energy efficiency, contributing to cost competitiveness and environmental compliance.

What buyers should watch

Digital Transformation In The Lab Delivering Efficiency & Sustainability

Importers and formulators of phenoxy herbicides should note the expanded supply from India, a key sourcing hub for agrochemicals. The enhanced capacity and product flexibility may offer more competitive pricing and reliable supply of 2,4-D acid, amine, and ester derivatives. Buyers should monitor commissioning timelines and commercial production start in early FY 2026–27.

Company context

Gaurav Mehra, Director of Flourish Paper & Chemicals, stated: “The 2,4-D capacity enhancement is a strategic investment aimed at reinforcing our technical capabilities and global competitiveness. With a ₹50 Crore capital infusion, we have strengthened core process infrastructure, improved operational efficiency, and enhanced environmental compliance standards. This expansion enables us to deliver consistent quality across acid, amine, and ester derivatives while meeting the growing global demand for phenoxy herbicides.”
